April is Esophageal, Oral, Head & Neck, and Testicular Cancer Awareness Month. Esophageal cancer is in the tube connecting the throat and the stomach. It starts in the inner layers and moves outward. There are two main kinds- squamous cell carcinoma and adenocarcinomas which occurs mainly in the lower esophagus. May is Melanoma and Skin Cancer Awareness Month

Malignant Melanoma is a cancer that usually appears on the skin but can also rarely in other locations. Since they can develop from moles, they should be checked if there is an increase in size, change in their color, fuzzy edges or if they become itchy.

This Friday, June 16 of Men's Health Week is Wear BLUE Day!   On your Casual Friday, Wear BLUE to raise awareness of men's health issues.   Men, remember to get regular checkups and be aware of risk factors for diseases that can affect your health like alcohol, tobacco, not eating right and not getting regular exercise.   Some conditions to be aware of are testicular health, prostate health, cardiovascular health, respiratory health, skin cancer, and diabetes.   http://www.menshealthnetwork.org/wearblue/friday/

July is Sarcoma Cancer Awareness Month Sarcomas are transformed cells of bone, cartilage, fat, muscle nervous system and vascular tissue.   They are different than carcinomas which develop from the cells lining the surface of blood vessels and organs throughout the body.   Sarcomas are much rarer in comparison to carcinomas. This rarity; however, often results in sarcomas being found after they have advanced.

August is Summer Sun Safety Month. Please look after yourself when outside in daylight hours. Stay in the shade, use sunscreen, and dress to protect yourself with hats, sunglasses and loose-fitting, long sleeve shirts. Limit your exposure to sun, especially from noon until sundown when the sun's rays are the strongest.
