The Great American Smokeout- November 17

The Annual Great American Smokeout happens on the third Thursday in November. This year, that day is the 17th.

It’s the American Cancer Society’s yearly day to encourage smokers to quit and begin new, tobacco-free lives.

It is the #1 preventable cause of premature death and disease in the world.

Forty million Americans still smoke with tobacco-related healthcare costs in the US exceeding $133 Billion from 2000-2012.

For every $6 pack of cigarettes a smoker buys, they are incurring $35 worth of healthcare over their lifetime. That adds up.

Support the smokers in your lives in their efforts to stop and help them quit today. Their lives are worth it.

National Mammography Day- October 21, 2016

Friday, October 21st is National Mammography Day. It is recognized on the third Friday in October.

It reminds women to get checked and be proactive in their healthcare.

Throughout the month and especially on that day, women are urged to schedule appointments and have mammographies.

Breastcancer.org says 1-in-8 women in the U.S. will develop invasive breast cancer in their lives. Early detection can make all the difference in a woman’s life.

This initiative was first announced by President Bill Clinton in 1993 and has been observed ever year since.
