About Jayasree Rao, MD

Dear Patients, Family members, Friends, and Physicians,

I hope this message finds you well. Going to work each day for the past many years to see and treat my patients was my blessing and joy. I love what I do. This love has unfortunately kept me from taking proper care of myself and that has caught up with me. You may be aware that I was on medical leave since the beginning of the year. After much contemplation, I have made the decision to retire from practicing medicine due to personal and health-related reasons as of March 1,2024.

It has been an incredible journey over the past 35 years and I am very appreciative of all the rewarding experiences and of the relationships that I have built throughout my career. I was lucky to assemble a good group of professionals to work with and as a Team, we have achieved great success in improving health outcomes and enhancing the quality of life for countless patients.

This Team will remain intact and continue the mission to ensure that you and your family have access to a solid network of support. I have been working with Dr. Sreecharan Mavuram since 2023. He is a Board-Certified Internist and Medical Oncologist. He is also a board eligible Hematologist. Over the last 5 months, Dr. Mavuram has been working closely with our Oncology/ Hematology trained Nurse Practitioners, Nurses and support staff. They have formed a very good working relationship. Dr. Mavuram will now be leading the Team. I have heard from numerous people about how his knowledge, experience and personality has complimented and positively impacted Patient care. I am thankful to know that my patients will be well cared for by Dr. Mavuram and our Team.

While I am retiring from the practice of medicine, I will still be involved with Oncology San Antonio as a consultant to Dr. Mavuram and during the next month I will be working closely with him to help make this transition as smooth as possible for all involved. I want to assure you all that your healthcare needs remain of the utmost importance. Dr. Mavuram and his Team will continue to provide the first-class patient care that you have all come to expect. Nothing needs to be done if a patient wishes to continue their care with us. All medical records are still with Oncology San Antonio and you will continue to receive great care as before.

If a patient wants to see a different physician, please speak to any member of your medical team. Dr. Mavuram his Team will be happy to assist you.
In my retirement, I hope to be able to follow another passion of mine. Over the years I have helped to educate children and to create initiatives to help empower disadvantaged women. My hope is that again following this passion will help fill the void left from no longer practicing medicine.

I am overwhelmed by the many sweet, heartfelt “thank you” letters, emails, cards, flowers, well wishes, and gifts that I have been receiving since the announcement. I will always remain grateful for the love and well wishes that were bestowed upon me by our patients, their families, friends, referring doctors, and colleagues in the community.

Thank you for your love, loyalty, patience and trust! We pray every day for your good health, peace and tranquility.

Wishing you all the very best,

Dr. Jayasree Rao
